Cool and Quirky bars in Exeter

Exeter has a really good variety of restaurants and bars, from independent to chain establishments, thanks to the recently renovated Guidhall. So if you’re looking for a bar which is a bit different with some actual character and not so “everyday”, here is my list of some of the cool and quirky bars in Exeter.

Firehouse

Pizza til 2.30am! Need I say more?
Firehouse is found near the top of the high street (2 minute walk from John Lewis) opposite Oddfellows (see below). Firehouse has 3 floors with a bar on the ground and top floor. A good variety of Beers, Ciders (really good variety!), Ales, Spirits and Wines are served at here. Firehouse is popular with locals and students (don’t get put off though) and regularly has live bands.

Located on the first floor above the Oddfellows restaurant, Oddfellows SpeakEasy is a more sophisticated bar with old-fashioned cocktails on the menu. The bar is fairly small but not too cramped. These guys can also make you any cocktail you like! Prices are, on average, a few more £s than others in Exeter, but definitely worth it.
Great food in the restaurant on the ground floor, and their Sunday roast is one of the best in Exeter.
There is also an OddFellows in Exmouth.

Hatt’s underground Cellar Bar

This place has some amazing cocktails for amazing prices; you can grab a cocktail for only £5.95. The venue itself is very unique. It’s located in the city centre on Gandy Street, underground beneath the Hatt’s bar and restaurant. This cosy bar is great for a couples or small-medium groups. If you’re tall, mind your head!

Doctor Ink’s Curiosities

This is one of the very latest additions to the city. Located on Exeter’s beautiful Quay, it is tucked away to the left of the entrance to the Custom House. This Victorian inspired cocktail bar has some fresh new cocktails from around the globe which are presented on the cool designed menu. Doctor Ink’s Curiosities is a cool little bar where old style wooden ceiling fans hang from above and a “gold” room can be found at the back to hideaway in.
